Tissue-paper suncatchers are the pick if you want to skip glue entirely. The paper witch is cut shapes and a glue stick, so plan on more cutting. The paper-roll mummy is mostly wrapping, but its googly eyes rule it out for kids who still put small things in their mouths.
Supplies and adult prep for the 3 crafts
| Craft | Main supplies | Adult prep | Kids do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Halloween suncatchers | Black cardstock, contact paper, tissue paper squares, tape | Cut the black cardstock outline | Press tissue squares onto the sticky contact paper |
| Paper-roll mummy | Paper roll, toilet paper, googly eyes, kids' craft glue | Cut toilet paper strips; supervise | Glue strips around the roll |
| Paper witch | Cardstock, glue stick, marker | Cut the pieces if scissors are still tricky | Glue the face together, draw details |
You’ll also need scissors; keep a pencil handy for tracing the suncatcher shapes.
Halloween suncatchers
Use ABCDee Learning's Halloween suncatchers tutorial for the shapes and linked templates. Have an adult prepare the black cardstock outline. Kids press tissue squares onto the sticky contact paper, then a second sheet goes over the top. Trim the edges and tape it to a window. Googly eyes are optional. The creator says cardstock faces work too, which keeps small hard pieces off the table.
Paper-roll mummy
Kimberly McLeod's toilet paper roll Halloween crafts on The Best Ideas for Kids include a mummy made of toilet paper strips glued around a paper roll, plus googly eyes. It's fine if some cardboard shows, and this version has no paint. The page calls for adult supervision and lists hot glue with adult help as an option. Stick with kids' craft glue.
Paper witch
The paper witch is number 8 on ABCDee Learning's list of Halloween crafts for kids. It's a flat collage: cut-paper features, paper-strip hair, teeth, and a hat glued onto a cardstock face with a glue stick, plus marker details. The tutorial adds gems; leave them out for this version. If scissors are still tricky for your child, cut the pieces ahead and hand over the glue stick and marker.
Setup and safety
Cover your work surface first. Check your craft supplies against the table before promising a project, since contact paper and googly eyes aren't in every drawer.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's Art and Craft Safety Guide recommends choosing art materials made for children, reading labels, supervising directly, keeping food and drinks away, and washing hands afterward. It also points out that non-toxic doesn't mean safe for uses a product wasn't meant for.
Small, hard pieces like googly eyes and gems can cause choking if a child puts them in their mouth. Keep glued pieces flat until they dry.
The full steps and pictures are on each creator's page. If you spot your next craft on Instagram, the guides below help you find it again.
For a day out, these Halloween outings with kids in NYC compare daytime activities, age guidance and one evening trip outside the city.
For decorations an adult makes, these 3 DIY Halloween decorations are a painted bat vase, stacked black pumpkins for the front step and framed book-page art.
Once the glue is put away and hands are washed, clear the table before you set out anything from Halloween party food.

About Stasht
We built Stasht because we kept saving the same kinds of things this guide is full of: places from Instagram, TikToks worth trying, articles, recipes, events, and links we actually wanted to use later.
Stash something and Stasht pulls out the useful parts: places, dates, links, hours, notes, and context. Then those saves can show up on your map, in your calendar, in search, or in a roundup when they are actually useful.
