Apple Picking Near NYC: Demarest and Warwick Compared

Demarest Farms' apple picking is closed for the 2026 season, according to its official page, checked October 23. Warwick Valley Winery still lists picking through November 1, subject to weather and harvest. Warwick charges by the car and sells a half bushel; Demarest's earlier timed-slot and bag prices below are kept for reference, not as a current booking option. Prices are USD. Demarest Farms, 244 Werimus Road, Hillsdale NJ

The official pick-your-own page now says apple picking is closed for the season. This closure was checked October 23, 2026. The farm market's hours and the page's general ripening calendar do not mean the orchard is open for picking.

The following describes the terms checked September 19, before the closure. Reservations were online, with the picking entrance across from the market. Entry included a hayride and the playground. The orchard prohibited outside food, drink, picnicking and sampling. Its walking surfaces were described as uneven. These earlier terms are not current booking instructions.

At that September 19 check, one admission plus one bag showed a $31.25 subtotal including booking fees. Four admissions age 2 and up plus a single bag added up to $60.35 from the listed prices. Each booking required at least one bag, with one bag per four admissions for parties of eight or more. Those are historical prices and terms, not an available offer.

Warwick Valley Winery, 114 Little York Road, Warwick NY

The 2026 pick-your-own page runs the season September 5 to November 1 and lists varieties by weekend. Weather and harvest change that list, and frost limits some varieties, so check the page before driving out for one particular apple.

Per the FAQ, only customers with an apple bag go into the orchard, and bags are bought at the tasting room or apple stand. Each bag includes a weekend tractor ride for up to four people. No outside food or drink. Children are welcome, but there is no playground or petting zoo, and seating at the venue is not reservable. If someone is dropping you off, arrange the ride back beforehand.

The two official pages disagree on closing time: the pick-your-own page says 11 a.m.–6 p.m., and the FAQ says the orchard is 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Confirm the last picking time with the winery before you plan the end of the day around it.

Comparing the listed costs

Demarest's September 19 prices added up to $60.35 for four admissions age 2 and up and one 10–12 lb bag. Its apple-picking season is now closed, so that figure is historical. At Warwick, one car and one half bushel come to $50 in stated components — $10 car admission in September or October, $40 for 22 lb of apples. Neither figure is a verified final checkout total, and neither includes anything extra bought at the market or tasting room.
